Dec 26, 2012  Elite Volare Mag Cycle Turbo Trainer Review / Setup / Noise Demo. I have been using my new Elite Volare Mag Turbo Trainer for a few weeks now.

I bought a turbo trainer (Elite Volare Mag Lite Indoor Turbo Trainer) for my MTB (Giant Terrago Disc '07). I'm having what can only be described as 'issues' setting it up. Firstly the quick release lever on the rear wheel just does not fit easily into the 'suction cup' holding the rear wheel in (pops out all too easily on dismount), and the 'screw in' arm seems extremely easy to overtighten. I only used it once in the configuration as the resistance increased as I was cycling - and when I dismounted and disassembled it my rear wheel no longer spins freely. The instructions say clearly not to use your disc brakes whilst using the machine (I haven't) but to use the trainer - it must be securely clamped. When I got off the machine my disc brake was red hot from friction, although I'm worried I've compressed the frame somehow by overtightening the trainer as well (it's got better after a night out of the trainer with the quick release off, but still is going to take some adjustment to get back to normal). I know I've made a terribble error somewhere along the setup, but I don't know if it's because I bought the cheapo trainer, or that I'm just stupid and have missed something about the introduction of the bike to the trainer (the instructions are next to useless).

Please no laughing - first time poster. J E James set up bikes being purchased on a trainer. They replace the skewer during this from the newer type with the lever that sits over the complete end having 2 pivot points. They use what apears to be the older type with the lever to tighten it coming out of one side then turning at a right angle. I was fortunate to have the old skewer on the first bike I put on my trainer and when I have tried the newer type found the clamping arm was pushed in to hard and has to point verticaly up to set up gears or the wheel can come out even without geting on the bike.

With this newer skewer the wheel did not sit square in the trainer and was pushed to an angle as well. Wiggle sell a skewer for trax trainers but there is not a picture on their web site so I can not say what it looks like. I do not know how to put the link here but it is under Turbo spares.

Welcome Kurioz These could help with entry into the turbo. They're available in most bike shops, this link is just to show the photo. I find them useful in that not having a QR lever means the bike sits better in the turbo & you don't have to tighten the turbo up so much to get grip, thus avoiding squashing the rear end. If turboing is your thing then get a cheap / old spare wheel with proper specific tyre (smooth, heavy, reliable) & no disc rotor - you might even be able to blag one free from the bike shop bin - & keep the off road wheel for outdoor use. PS Can you post photos of the kit? We could perhaps give more specific tips if we can see whats involved. Max plus ii license cracked.
