Therefore I asked for help and I want to try to install GNU-Cobol with MinGw (not Cygwin) on a Windows computer in order to find out whether this installation can handle the German umlaute. May be, i cached the wrong download - but this version works very fine. It is the version i used in production to migrate old data from Z/OS to Linux with full success. I have a Job-Controling tool like UC/4 or Jobtrack - also written with this version and it works superior without any trouble.
